What do you picture in your head when you hear someone say that they teach Sunday School? Some people have a memory of being in a Sunday School class when they were a child, and some have never experienced this. When it comes to teaching kids, there are various methods of teaching that can help a child learn in a way that works for them.

Methods of communication have changed over time & there are so many different options available today.  Consider the following information that was put together by William Glasser.  People remember:

methods of learning

What about the people who ‘teach’ in your children’s ministry?  What methods of teaching are they using?  If they are going to go to all the trouble to teach the lesson, one would think that they would want the kids to remember it.  Consider using different methods when teaching children.  Here are some ideas:

Video – DVD’s
YouTube
Music
Drama
Apps
Teacher narrates while kids act out
Reading a book to the class
Art Attack
Object Lesson
Small Group Discussion
Speed Sketch

According to William Glasser, people will remember 95% of what they teach.  If you can tell a story or lesson to kids using one of the methods of teaching listed above, and then get the kids to repeat it back to you or teach it to others, that will help them learn and retain what they learned a lot more.
